Hi i have just started re tiling my bathroom with some heavy ish ceramic tiles.
Heavy tiles on wall.
Tile adhesive is expected to hold the tile in place not just for years but for decades without fail.
Whether wall or floor tile that tile needs to thoroughly stick to its base surface demands placed on tile adhesive are both extensive and steep.
In theory the easiest solution is to build from the bottom supporting the lowest tile course right on the floor and letting the upper courses rest on those.
So let s look at the basics of wall tile installation that will make everything go a lot smoother less frustrating and less costly.
It must be easy to work with and it must adequately fill in gaps between the tile and the substrate.
I started at the top over the bath and to begin with it was going great.
Ceramic tiles can make stunning wall art but the problem is how to hang them on the wall.
Large heavy wall tiles are a challenge to hang because the weight of tiles makes them prone to slip off the wall.
After finishing the center rows gradually fill in the remaining space.
It cannot cure too fast.
Depending on the size of the area to be tiled work around the room a course at a time with a rapid adhesive then start a new course where you 1st started by then then your 1st row of tiles would have set if the erea is fully tiled.
You can t very well drill a couple holes in the back of a tile to twist in the eye screws or attach a metal hook with a couple of tiny nails.
After all tile is hard fired clay.
But in reality floors.
But when i was about 3 rows down i gently tapped a tile into place with a bit of wood and the one above it just fell off.
Press the tile into the mortar to secure it to the wall.
But don t be discouraged.
To apply each tile twist it slightly while pushing it into the mortar.
Fixing heavy tiles to bare plaster bathroom wall.
Otherwise you do.
This d i y video how to install large format tiles on bath room wall for beginner part 1 explain in details the process of installing large tile on a b.
If you are able to start with the center part of the wall.
However wall tile installation has its own set of rules that you dare break at your own risk.
Then scoop a little adhesive on to a notched trowel and spread it onto the wall in a thin layer.
The tile would crack or break.
Before you can tile a wall remove the existing tiles fill any cracks or holes with spackle and sand the surface so the tiles will have a strong level surface to stick to.
